VINTAGE NOTES A season of brilliant weather, moderate temperatures, and slow, even ripening. The first half of 2009 was relatively warm and dry, allowing budbreak, early vine growth, and flowering to occur without event. Throughout the Russian River Valley, average highs barely exceeded the high seventies for most of June, July, and early August. An intense heat spike at the end of August wrecked havoc with many varietals, but both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sailed through unscathed. Harvest for Pinot started the first week of September even temperatures allowed us to pick when sugars, acids, and flavors were balanced. The Chardonnay followed soon thereafter, and September's ongoing mild weather allowed for leisurely remainder to the harvest. This type of slow, even growing season allows extended hang time for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, creating intense aromatics and vibrant flavors that unfold steadily as they age.
Tasting NotesNOSE: Dark chocolate, black raspberry, cherry cordial and dried leaves suggest a wine that’s brooding and muscular yet restrained.
PALATE: Full-bodied and bold, with cranberry, and pomegranate. Notes of dark chocolate give way to black raspberry, deep round tannins and a lingering finish.
