I’m in Las Vegas, and I want to talk about an unbelievable dinner I had last night.  I asked a sommelier friend of mine for a suggestion on where to eat.  I expected Spago, Aureole, Craft Steak, etc.  Knowing me as he does, his suggestion went in a totally different direction.

“You guys want great food and wine?” he asked.

“Yes, of course” I answered

“You don’t care about ambiance?” he continued.

“No.”

I soon found myself at Lotus of Siam.  I was excited when the taxi driver announced that she was Thai, and that’s where she goes for Thai food.  I was surprised when ended up in a strip mall, miles from the Vegas Strip.  What a treat.

Bank, the manager, has put together a tremendous list focused on Riesling(Check it out here ), to compliment the menu.  And the prices!  This place clearly doesn’t see wine as much as a revenue center, as it does a part of the meal.  The food was without a doubt the best Thai I have EVER had, and ranks as one of my top 10 meals.  That compliment does not come easy.

The next time you’re in Vegas, and dare to venture off the strip, be sure to give it a try.
