Today I took part in a panel discussion as part of Pinot on the River, a tasting run by the Pinot Report. Its always interesting to get with a group of people so focused on Pinot Noir that they make a special trip out for it. Folks who really know the vineyards, appellations, and clones. People who can, with confidence and authority, speak about wine. Still, there’s just something intimidating about wine. Something that makes people feel that they may be wrong about something, as crazy as it may be. In this case it was serving temperature.

Its my fault for bringing it up I guess. I’m a temperature snob. I know it. I admit it. I deal with it. I like my red wine a little cooler, and my white wine a little warmer than most. I’m particular. The bottom line is its MY opinion. Its what I like. You don’t have to agree with me, and you don’t have to drink it my way (unless you’re at my house).

Should wine be served at room temperature? Maybe; it the room just happens to be a cellar in the basement of your castle in Bordeaux. The real answer is yes; IF that’s the way you like it. I’m an expert in nothing; beyond my own opinion.
